Warm hands massage your feet and then gently rock your legs from side to side. As your body relaxes, you are guided into passive yoga postures with assists of varying pressure and intensity. Sometimes you are asked to breathe deeply, but otherwise you get to just be completely at ease. You may move from your back to your side to your stomach. At the end, you rest on your back under a blanket, perhaps with a bolster supporting your knees. You feel like you just received a deep therapeutic massage combined with a private yoga class, but somehow also managed to sneak in a rejuvenating nap. And there you have it–Thai yoga massage!
This past Saturday, I received a Thai yoga massage from Zelda Brooks, a Thai yoga bodywork practitioner in Waitsfield, Vermont, who now offers sessions by appointment at IndyYoga on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Thai yoga massage has many similar benefits to other types of massage. It can help you relax, relieve pain, decrease stress, and improve circulation, among many other things. But you get to lie on the floor on a bed of yoga mats, a thick massage cushion, and blankets. You also get to keep your clothes on, and since no oils or lotions are used, you can get on with your day afterward without showering or washing your hair!
The massage I received from Zelda was one of the best massages I have received in a long time. If you’re interested in trying Thai yoga massage, I highly recommend calling Zelda to schedule an appointment soon, as she is currently offering a 25% discount on 90-minute sessions at IndyYoga. Contact Zelda at (802) 296-1241 or by email zeldabrooks1978(at)gmail(dot)com. You can learn more about Thai yoga bodywork on her website zeldabrooks.massagetherapy.com.
